A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned: Or, a chevronel Gules issuing from base a lightning bolt palewise of the like, a chief enhanced arched, nebuly Azure. Attached below the shield a Red scroll inscribed RISING TO THE DEFENSE in Gold letters.
Scarlet and yellow are the colors associated with Air Defense Artillery. The nebuly or stylized cloud shapes and blue represent the units theatre of attack. The chevron symbolizes support. The lightning bolt together with the chevron pointing up emphasizes attack and pinpoints accuracy and underscores the units motto.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 22 November 1989.
